So it's nearly been 2 years for us students that we are confined to our homes and have been studying online. It's nothing close to a nightmare for me particularly as I always used to enjoy going to school and playing around in school. It is genuinely very tough for restless students like me to stay at home for days and now years. At first it was very difficult for both students and teachers to shift towards online education but as time flew by we all adapted to it. So as we all have heard that everything comes with a good aspect and a bad aspect online education also has certain advantages and disadvantages. So without much further ado let me drive you straight into three pros and three cons of online education.
Let's first begin with the PROS OF ONLINE EDUCATION
With schools shut and students not having to travel for 1or2 hours from their homes to school and then again back from schools to their homes students now have a lot of time available for their self-study. Online classes has actually come as a blessing in disguise for all those students who lived in far off places from their school and had to travel for about 2-3 hrs on a daily basis to their respective schools. On an average students get at least 3-4 hours extra to complete their assignments, revision or completing their notes or practice various co-curricular activities during online education. Otherwise when schools were offline students would get only 1 or 2 hours every day to take time off for themselves and do some self-study or practice some co-curricular activities. Students also get more time to learn new skills, develop new interests and acquire knowledge on a particular subject or topic by surfing on the internet.

BY SELF-STUDY NOT ONLY DO STUDENTS GET MORE TIME FOR THEMSELVES BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY ALSO GET TO KNOW HOW MUCH IMPROVEMENT IS REQUIRED BY THEM ON A PARTICULAR SUBJECT OR A TOPIC.
- BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE MATTER:
During online education students get an opportunity to have a better understanding of the subject matter. Teachers nowadays use video graphics, video lessons, animations for teaching their students online. This helps the students to understand and learn difficult topics faster as it creates a visual image of the topic in their brains. Students at the same time can access YouTube videos in order to get a better understanding of the topic or can take a subscription of an e-tuition which are nowadays available at lower costs due to the existing competition in the education market. They can also make word documents or ppt's so as to write down notes and keep it saved to their respective devices. Moreover with an increased time for self-study students can now go through topics as many times as they want to and can also ask doubts with their teachers or can browse it on the internet.
ACCORDING TO A RECENT STUDY USAGE OF VIDEO GRAPHICS AND ANIMATIONS INCREASES THE STUDENT SATISFACTION WHILE STUDYING TO 93%. THEY ALSO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF TOPICS WHICH OTHERWISE MIGHT HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN BY MOUTH.
- A FLEXIBLE PLATFORM FOR STUDYING:
So far the biggest advantage of online education is that you can study as and when you want to , where you want to and how you want to. This also helps you to come up with new ideas to increase your efficiency during studying by customising your study table and also finding out new ideas to make your online classes more interesting. This point is much more relevant for students who also have their own commitments such as job , sports etc.
BY CUSTOMISING THEIR OWN STUDY SPACE STUDENTS TEND TO FOCUS MORE ON THEIR STUDIES AND GET LESS DISTRACTED BY OTHER ACTIVITIES.
- COST EFFICIENT AND TIME SAVING:
There is no doubt that online education is cost-effective and time saving as all it requires is a smartphone which is available at low prices such as 7,000-8,000/- Along with the smartphone it requires a stable network connection and also requires a notebook and pen to take down notes. It is much cheaper than offline education as students now save on their travelling and other miscellaneous expenses. Online education is also time saving as students do not have to take the load of travelling from one place to the other. They get a lot of time for self-study and developing healthy habits and passions which they otherwise would not have got if they were going to schools for studying. At the same time the relief in school fees by various schools is a boon for students with a low economic profile.
ONLINE EDUCATION IS THE CHEAPEST AND MOST TIME-SAVING FORM OF EDUCATION TILL DATE.
Let's go through the CONS OF ONLINE EDUCATION
Although there are wonderous pros of online education there are also certain cons to it and the most important one being 'distraction'. During online classes with no teacher present physically students tend to use their phones during online classes and at the same time instead of taking down notes they sit and watch videos on You Tube or scroll through Reels on Instagram. The parents also can not look after their children every time as they also have household chores or their office work which they have to complete. Many students don't even take the trouble of copying down notes as they can easily ask their friends to send them the images of the days work. Thus distraction and usage of phone during online classes for non-educational purposes would lead to the downfall of the student in the future as he/she will find that they are the one's lagging behind whereas the rest of their class is way ahead of them in terms of completion of the matter.

DISTRACTION DURING ONLINE CLASSES IN THE FORM OF MOBILE PHONES, TEXTING SOCIAL MEDIA ETC. TENDS TO DECREASE ONE'S PRODUCTIVITY AND FOCUS WHILE STUDYING.
It is always said by wise men that spending each day in the same manner will some times make you feel lethargic, unenergetic and make you a victim of boredom. Students now do not feel any thing new in attending online classes they feel that it is the 'same procedure every day' to wake up open the app on the laptop or phone and to hear what the teacher is saying or to take down notes. If online classes continue for the full year of 2022 I will not be surprised to know that more than 50% of students are now in depression because of boredom. The governing bodies will have to look into the matter and re open schools at the earliest otherwise the students will no longer be interested in studying.
PROLONGED BOREDOM AND FATIGUE WERE THE LEADING CAUSES FOR DEPRESSION IN THE YEAR 2020-21
With online classes becoming the new normal many academically good students have lost the motivation to work hard to rank 1st in their class because they know that because of widespread cheating and usage of unfair methods during exams it would surely allow a dishonest student to rank first in their class or to get a higher grade from them. Moreover with no offline classes or offline students just do not feel to work hard to do well in their exams and instead of studying and giving the exam honestly they now are sticking to dishonest means to pass their exams.
CHEATING IN ONLINE EXAMS IS COMPLETE INJUSTICE TOWARDS A STUDENT WORKING HARD TO GIVE HIS EXAMS HONESTLY AS HE/SHE IS BARRED FROM RECEIVING THE MERIT WHICH THEY MOST HONESTLY DESERVE.
Another major disadvantage of online classes is that students are exposed to their laptop or mobile screens for a considerable period of time. Even though the government have restricted online classes to a maximum of 4 hours on all working days many schools across India conduct online classes just like normal school hours that is 6-8hrs on all working days and after that they hand in the students loads of assignments to complete during the day. Increased screen time may lead to weakness in eyes, increase in the power of the eyes, frequent headaches, drowsiness, fatigue and may also make the student sleep-deprived.
INCREASED SCREEN TIME RESULTS IN HEADACHES AND INCREASE IN EYE POWER.
I would like to end today's blog by requesting students to trust the process and move on because:
"THERE IS A RAY OF LIGHT AT THE END OF EVERY TUNNEL,
ALL YOU NEED TO GET THERE IS HOPE OF NEVER GIVING UP."
THANK YOU❤️❤️
