In today's modern and fast moving world the competition among students has risen considerably. Every student feels as to how he/she can excel in their academics and co-curricular activities. As students we all have heard about students studying madly for 10 hrs every day to excel in a particular examination but the question here arises that does every student share the same capability to study for more than 10 hrs every day, No right? Every student is not the same it is very important to realise that every student is made different with different brain capabilities and skills. So for an average student like me how can I excel in an exam by studying harder or by studying smartly ? The answer is studying smartly, and I can say this by my personal experience that studying in a smarter way is much better as it had helped me pass my 11th grade examinations where  just before a month to my exams I literally had a ton of syllabus left to complete but because of the following tips which I followed in a disciplined manner I could pass class 11th with flying colours;

  • STUDYING FOR SHORT DURATIONS:
It is always better to study with complete concentration for 30-50 minutes rather than studying continuously for more than 2 hours as you are bound to clutter your mind and mess up all that you have studied. It is very important to understand that even if you study for 30 minutes you have to study with utmost concentration for those 30 minutes rather than wasting your time to complete the same topic in more than your prescribed time by getting distracted into other things. Short study sessions help the synapses of the brain to process information much better than lots of information in long sessions. It will also be able to help your brain in understanding and registering things more quickly.

BY ACTIVELY DEVELOPING GOOD STUDY SKILLS AND STARTEGIES, YOU WILL KEEP YOUR MOTIVATION HIGH AND THUS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS MORE EASILY AND                                                                                               EFFICIENTLY.

  • EXERCISE WELL:
There are plenty of good reasons for you to keep yourself physically active. But did you know that even 20 minutes of exercise before studying  can improve your concentration and can help you to study effectively as it causes blood to flow to the brain , which in turn fires up your neurons and promotes cell growth particularly in the hippocampus ( It is a complex structure embedded deep into the temporal lobe. It has a major role in learning and memory).

EXCERCISE HELPS TRIGGER ENDORPHINS, WHICH IMPROVE THE PRIORITIZING FUNCTIONS OF THE BRAIN. AFTER EXERCISE, YOUR ABILITY TO SORT OUT PRIORITIES WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO BLOCK OUT DISTRACTIONS AND CONCENTRATE BETTER ON A GIVEN TASK.

  • TRY USING FLASH CARDS, HIGHLIGHTERS, STICKY NOTES ETC. WHILE STUDYING:

I can guarantee you from my own personal experience that if you use highlighters while you are going through a chapter or through your own notes you will remember the key terms or points which you highlighted for a long time as the colour combination will remain in your brain for a long time. Similarly if you use flash cards or sticky notes to jot down some important pointers, key terms etc. Although you would have to prepare long detailed notes for studying a topic  but still you can jot down important key phrases and terms on a sticky note and stick it on your wall. Similarly you can stick on the wall important formulas for maths and glance through it everyday so that you don't forget the formulas for that particular chapter. You can also write down motivational quotes on a sticky note so that whenever you feel low you read those quotes and impart a bit of positive energy in yourself.

  • SET GOALS FOR YOURSELF AND TEST YOURSELF:

A person who does all his work smartly makes sure that he/she does not have to redo the task which they have done in the past. So in order to be a smart student one must test themselves on the topics which they have covered earlier so that they do not lag behind or forget the topic which they had done in the past, having such a practice will surely help you to revise more confidently before your exams. Another thing which a student can practice is that they can set certain goals for themselves for example, deciding the chapters they will study in geography in the week or how many topics of math they will cover in a week etc. This will make a student feel responsible towards their studies and at the same time will help them in becoming punctual as they will work towards completing their goals within the stipulated time period .

BEFORE SETTING A GOAL FOR YOURSELF TAKE  A CLOSE LOOK ON WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE AND HOW YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL.

With this I now put a full stop to today's blog and really hope that you will implement these points in your lives in order to become both smarter and hard working students.

I would like to end today's blog by quoting Ted Turner who once said:

            " YOU SHOULD SET GOALS BEYOND YOUR REACH SO THAT YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO LIVE AND WORK FOR."

THANK YOU❤️❤️
